Honda is making waves around the globe rolling out its all-new, eighth-generation Civic. While in the United States, we're most excited about the 200-hp Si model, in Europe, it is the combination of zippy performance and fuel economy in the base models that has consumers fired up. In Europe, there are three engine choices: 1.4L i-DSI (intelligent-Dual and Sequential Ignition), 1.8L, and 2.2 i-CDTi diesel. Given the rise in gasoline prices, all commuters can appreciate the new hybrid with a 1.3L three-stage i-VTEC engine that can recover 10 percent more energy than the outgoing model. This hybrid system has 20 percent greater output than the '05 model and still shows a five percent improvement in fuel economy. The Civic also boasts gains on the safety front, with standard features such as ABS with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), and a seatbelt reminder system for the rear passengers. The company expects that the new Civic will achieve Euro NCAP ratings of 5 stars for front and side impact safety.
